A little bit about myself...

Originally from Pathhead, Midlothian, I spent most of my childhood drawing and painting. I moved to the Scottish Borders in 1995 and work from home in the heart of the countryside. My work has predominately focused mostly on seascapes of the west coast and islands of Scotland where I spent many family holidays as a child. In 2014 my Mother, who was a talented artist, developed Alzheimer's and we found great comfort painting together. This inspired me to concentrate on painting full time.

Self-taught, my paintings are based on photographs I have taken when observing nature and capturing the atmosphere of the moment. I love the power of the sea crashing against rocks, and in contrast, it's tranquillity blending into the sand. I am also inspired by the sheer beauty created in changing light and mood.

In more recent years I have also developed a completely different technique creating a more collage and slightly abstract style using mostly watercolour and ink to bring out the myriad of vibrant colours in the rolling hills, grass & trees in the beautiful Borders countryside. More than often, when driving and walking I stop to take photographs or sketches to capture the specific moment.

Lanzarote is also one of my favourite holiday destinations and I love painting the beautifully diverse scenery that is found around the island.

Painting in all mediums, I thoroughly enjoy passing on my skills and knowledge allowing others to experiment and develop their own technique and style.
